Data from the U.S. Census Bureau show that there are 76.4 million baby boomers. These 76.4 million baby boomers represent close to one-quarter of the estimated 2012 U.S. population of 314 million. Baby Boomers are providing a 70+ million-member strong market for legions of anti-aging companies, dermatology creams, cosmetic surgeries, and other anti-aging products. Many cosmetic specialists around the country have seen an influx of clients because of evolving attitudes among appearance-conscious Baby Boomers. A recent study found that 1 in 5 Baby Boomers either have had or would consider cosmetic surgery.

hike7It is estimated that the rise of baby boomer population seeking to find alternative therapies and treatments to slow down aging related conditions, now represents a U.S. market for anti-aging products to more than $114 billion in 2015. There are many companies and clinics promoting hormone-replacement, including testosterone for men and female hormones for women, as a way to slow the aging process. Baby boomers have large treatment options to consider among the anti-aging industry, including cosmetic surgery procedures that cost thousands, hormone treatment plans, and specialized skin-care products.

Some anti-aging specialists argue that life spans can be prolonged and enhanced through interventions such as hormone-replacement therapy and dietary supplements. It is equally as important for the aging baby boomer population to make wise decisions about their health, including eating a health diet, regular exercise 3x a week, and don’t smoke.

The FDA has approved hormone-replacement for some specific purposes related to diseases and deficiencies. As with the wide variety of treatments and supplements that are available throughout the anti-aging marketplace, it is arguable MORE important to invest in yourself with exercise and a diet with high amounts of fruits, vegetables and lean protein choices.

It is important to note that there is no such ‘fountain of youth’ and to date there is no independent long-term research that shows hormone replacement add years to life or prevent age-related frailty. It is important that every potential patient to calculate carefully which type of procedure and product makes the best sense for them physically & financially.
